Gobabeb Research & Training Centre

No better space... than wide open space! Time for being in the desert again! Members of Namibia Scientific Society are invited to join this tour.
New members are welcome. Annual membership costs N$ 300 per family.

Gobabeb (23°34’S, 15°03’E) is located in the Namib Naukluft Park.
The Gobabeb Research & Training Centre is an education and research institute, not easily accessible to the public. It is the result of a joint venture between the Desert Research Foundation of Namibia (DRFN), and the Ministry of Environment and Tourism (MET). The Centre hosts researchers, environmentalists, film teams and training groups, including primary, secondary and university students, as well as interns involved in a variety of activities.

Program:

Friday, 18th October
Own transport - arrival before 18h00
18:00- Welcome by Dr Gillian Maggs-Kölling followed by Documentary: Surviving the Sand Sea
19:30- Dinner
20:30- Lecture by Jessie Roberts: Dune larks and climate change

Saturday, 19th October
07:00- Breakfast
08:00- Guided walk
10:30- Lecture by Saima Shikesho: !Nara seed dispersal

12:30- Lunch
14:30- Drive to !Nara Valley (own vehicles)
18:00- Sundowner (own drinks or cashbar)
19:00- Dinner
Thereafter guided Scorpions and Stars walk

Sunday, 20th October
08:00- Breakfast
09:00- Guided Tour: Gobabeb Station
10:00- Check out / optional lunch pack.

Please note: The regulations for the Namib Naukluft Park prohibit any traffic between sunset and sunrise. Copy of Permit will be sent to participants. Please send vehicle registration, nationality, Nam-Idi/ passport.
