The 7 R's to keep Namibia Green

Rethink

Give some thought about what you use, what you throw away and how your daily life impacts the environment.

For example, ensure products such as light bulbs, household batteries, cooking oil etc is properly disposed of. See the Green Directory‘s Waste Collection section or contact your local town council for advice.

Opt for plants that are indigenous and suitable for our country’s arid conditions, and if you plant trees, rather consider planting a fruit tree which gives shade while providing you with healthy produce.

Reduce

Reduce your electricity costs by greening your house with alternative energy. Make use of LED lights, solar power and be sure to install insulation for temperature control.
Separate recyclables from your general waste.

Start composting organic waste for use in your gardens.
Use less single use items by investing in more durable, reusable alternatives, such as reusable shopping bags, refillable water bottles, your own coffee mug and by keeping a set of reusable cutlery with you to use instead of plastic cutlery.

Buy fruit and vegetables in season, preferably from your local supplier.
Opt for refillable, enviro-friendly cleaning products and materials, or make your own!
Reduce your water consumption by installing water-saving taps and showers, and supporting water-saving initiatives.
